HOW TO CHIP IN AND EMPOWER YOUR LIBRARY

The Morristown-Hamblen Library has been one of the most beneficial institutions for Hamblen County and the surrounding counties for over 80 years when it was established by the City and County government as they agreed to equally fund it as an official “public library” on October 6, 1941. Of course, we should never forget all the ladies of the community before this that endeavored to make this establishment possible.

The General Federated Women’s Clubs have always supported and cherished the library. As early as the 1890’s there is documentation of their members sharing books and loaning them as a library in this community.

Many people have contributed to the library over the years. In big ways and small ways, they have made all the difference. People who have contributed their art, knowledge, time and money have helped build this library. Their goodwill is the foundation that this library is built upon.

The Morristown-Hamblen Library Board members and Staff have committed to keeping the library modernized and keeping up with fast-changing economic times. The mission statement reads, “As a vital part of an educated community, the Morristown-Hamblen Library’s mission is to improve the lives of all citizens by providing free, unlimited access to information.” The Board of Trustees and Library Staff know that without the help of the community this mission will not be able to succeed. Therefore, it is greatly appreciated when someone steps up to contribute in some way to the library with the thoughtfulness of a bequest, support through volunteering their time or making gift donations for library materials, programs and projects. The donations of books and other materials that have been placed in memory or in honor of loved ones are such a wonderful statement of affection not only for the loved one but also for the library itself. And each time these materials are checked out their loved ones are remembered.

If you would like to contribute to the library you may do so in person or print the donation form online or the volunteer application online and mail it to the library at 417 West Main Street, Morristown, TN 37814. If you come by in person these forms are available at the front desk as well. There is also a selection of materials available to choose from if you wish to place something in honor or in memory of someone or you may request a subject.

Thank you.
