2011 SUMMER READING PROGRAM

Dates: June 4-July 8

Place: 417 W. Main St.
Morristown, TN

Phone: (423) 586-6410

Ages: 0-12 years

What is Read Under the Big Top @ Your Library?

Read Under the Big Top @ Your Library is a program where children can earn incentives for either listening to or reading books from the library and at home. At the end of the program, the top readers/listeners will be entered into a grand prize drawing. There will also be weekly programs scheduled with stories, games, and songs. There will also be special guests, movies, and events throughout the program. At the end of the program, there will be a carnival for the children to celebrate their hard work reading this summer.

How do I register for the program?

Registration begins on May 4. Each child who registers will receive a Chick-fil-A coupon for a free sandwich, and a bingo card, with a log sheet on the back to record and mark off his/her books. The bingo cards have reading/listening/activity requirements for each of the 25 squares marked. To receive credit for incentive prizes and to be entered in the grand prize drawing, all bingo cards/log sheets must be filled out and presented to the librarian. Incentives will not be given once a patron leaves the library. The library is not responsible for lost/missing bingo cards, but will have new cards available if needed.

Carnival Event—July 9, 2011

To celebrate the end of the Summer Reading Program, there will be a carnival in the back parking lot of the Library from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. There will be game booths, concessions, balloons, face painting, a watermelon seed spitting contest, and a pie eating contest. Five tickets will be awarded for the carnival for each child who enters the Grand Prize Drawing. Additional tickets can be purchased at the carnival. Also, if children have read at least 20,000 books by Friday, July 8, Ms. Christina will have a slime bucket poured on her at the carnival. All proceeds will go toward new shelving in the Children’s Room.
